Additionally, our Hastelloy seamless tubes, produced from solid billets pierced into continuous tubes without weld seams for high pressure resistance, span 12.7 mm to 88.9 mm outside diameter in 19 BWG to 10 BWG walls. SB-622 determines the remainder element by arithmetic difference, so nickel is reported rather than analysed directly.

SB-622 sets no Hastelloy C276 hardness limit, so hardness is a reported mill value rather than an acceptance criterion.

Alloy C276 tube is produced by two manufacturing routes and in three cross-sections. Seamless suits high-pressure duty, while welded and ERW tube costs less per metre at the same gauge.
Hastelloy C276 seamless tube is cold-drawn from a hollow with no longitudinal weld, so no heat-affected zone acts as a corrosion initiation site. ASTM B622 / ASME SB-622 governs it, and delivery is solution annealed and descaled.
Hastelloy C276 welded tube is formed from annealed strip and seam-welded without filler metal, then solution annealed. ERW is the resistance-welded route within that family and remains our primary manufacturing method. ASTM B626 / ASME SB-626 covers this material.
Round section accounts for most alloy C276 tube demand and covers the full outside-diameter range we supply. Heat exchanger and condenser bundles, instrumentation lines and pre-bent U-bend assemblies all specify round C276 tubing.
Square box section in C276 is used for fabricated frames, guards and equipment supports inside corrosive plant enclosures, where a flat face simplifies bracket mounting. A square C276 tube is supplied against confirmed orders rather than from stock.
Rectangular section carries load about one principal axis, which suits skid frames, walkway supports and handrails in acid plant areas. Wall thickness and section dimensions are agreed at the enquiry stage.

Four industries commonly use the Hastelloy C276 in various applications, and each of them handles process media that attack chromium-nickel steels at working temperature.
Chemical plants run C276 tubing on hydrochloric, sulphuric and phosphoric acid service: reactor coils, dosing lines and acid cooler bundles. Molybdenum and tungsten stabilise the passive film under reducing conditions.
Absorber internals and quench inlets in power station scrubbers condense chloride-bearing acid at low pH. Alloy C276 tube is specified there because it resists low pH and high chloride together, a combination that pits austenitic steel.
Bleach plants dose chlorine dioxide and hypochlorite at elevated temperatures. C276 tube is specified for washer, tower and bleach liquor heater service, where resistance to wet chlorine gas is the deciding property.
Effluent treatment plants and waste incineration lines carry mixed acids of unpredictable composition. Hastelloy C276 tubing is selected for heat recovery coils and quench duty because it tolerates oxidising and reducing conditions in one circuit.
Hastelloy C276 welding is normally performed by GTAW with matching ERNiCrMo-4 filler, or autogenously on thin gauges. The 0.010 % carbon ceiling restricts carbide precipitation in the heat-affected zone; SB-622 notes that proper heat treatment during or after fabrication is necessary for optimum performance, so post-weld requirements should be agreed with the manufacturer.
Alloy C276 resists ferric and cupric chlorides, wet chlorine gas, hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide, and handles oxidising and reducing acids alike. Hot concentrated nitric acid is the exception, where a higher-chromium alloy applies.
SB-622 requires each tube to pass either a hydrostatic test or a non-destructive electric test to ASTM B829. ASME makes certification mandatory, so a manufacturer's certificate and test report accompany every lot. We add positive material identification in-house.
