ASTM A312 TP304L is the reduced-carbon variant within the 18/8 chromium-nickel group. ASME SA-312 holds its carbon to 0.035% maximum, and that ceiling governs how the pipe behaves once an arc has passed over it. Due to the minimal concentration of free carbon available for chromium carbide precipitation at the grain boundaries, girth welds retain their intergranular corrosion resistance without the need for post-weld heat treatment. Chromium ranges from 18.0 to 20.0% and nickel from 8.0 to 13.0%, with no stabilising addition and no molybdenum. Certified minima under ASTM A312 / ASME SA-312 are 485 MPa tensile strength, 170 MPa yield strength and 35% elongation, taken longitudinally on annealed material.
Our 304L SS pipes programme spans 1/8" NB to 10" NB in SCH 5S, 10S, 20S, 40S and 80S, dimensioned to ASME B36.19, at lengths reaching 24 ft. Seamless, ERW and welded production sit under one roof, with square and rectangular sections from the box plant. UNS S30403 answers to 1.4306 in Europe and SUS304LTP in Japan. 304L stainless steel seamless pipe is pierced from a solid billet and drawn to size, leaving no longitudinal joint, which suits higher pressures and cyclic service. Welded 304L SS pipe is roll-formed from flat-rolled stock and seam-fused without filler metal, offering lower cost on larger diameters.
These products primarily serve chemical headers, dairy transfer lines, treated water mains, and wastewater distribution networks. Operations are backed by ISO 14001 and 45001 certifications, alongside approvals from IBR, EIL, BIS, and PED 2014/68/EU.

ASME SA-312 records that Grades 304, 304L and 347 are accepted by ASME B31.3 for service down to −250°C (−425°F) without qualification by impact tests. Impact testing is required only where chromium or nickel content falls outside the AISI ranges, or where carbon exceeds 0.10 %.

Europe lists two numbers: 1.4306 carries the higher nickel band, 1.4307 the leaner.
Two decisions sit behind a 304L order: manufacturing route first, then section profile. Two routes are covered first, and three profiles close the list.
304L seamless stainless steel pipe begins with a hot-pierced billet, which is then reduced to finished dimensions on the draw bench. No seam runs along its wall. Higher-pressure chemical duty and cryogenic work draw most of the seamless tonnage produced on that line.
Roll-formed strip fuses without added filler under SA-312 requirements make 304L welded pipe more cost-efficient than seamless beyond 4-inch NB. Electric resistance welding supplies most of the tonnage. Squeeze rolls bond the faying surfaces at forging temperatures.
Every schedule in the A312 range is rolled in a round section, since ASME B36.19 recognises no other profile. A round 304L order is written by bore and schedule.
Square
Square 304L pipe comes off the box section plant against firm orders, in sizes from 12 x 12 mm through to 100 x 100 mm, on walls between 1.0 mm and 6.0 mm, to 12 metres.
Rectangular
Rectangular sizes cover 13 x 25 mm through 100 x 50 mm within the same wall band and length limit. Most of it goes into platform supports and conveyor frames.

Stainless steel 304L pipes deliver superior corrosion resistance and weldability across demanding industrial environments, serving critical infrastructure from chemical processing and hygienic food lines to municipal water treatment and power generation.
SS 304L Pipe carries dilute acids, caustic solutions and intermediate streams between reactors, columns and heat recovery equipment. Spool pieces reach the site already welded, and the passive film holds across each joint.
Grade 304L Pipe runs product lines, CIP circuits and utility water in dairies and breweries. Caustic and acid cleaning cycles attack sensitised weld zones first, which is why hygienic specifications name the low-carbon grade.
Treated water mains, sludge transfer lines and aeration headers use 304L pipe, where carbon steel would need coating and cathodic protection. Chloride content in most treated municipal supplies sits within the tolerance of 304L, though chloride levels should be confirmed for coastal or brackish sources.
Utility piping, instrument air runs and low-temperature process lines inside refineries specify 304L. In published slug-flow testing on a 90-degree long-radius elbow, AISI 1018 carbon steel eroded at 4.12 times the rate of AISI 304L stainless steel under identical conditions.
Condensate lines, demineralised water circuits and feedwater make-up piping in thermal stations use this grade. Metal temperature stays below the creep range there.
Bleach plant water lines, stock transfer piping and pigment slurry runs favour 304L. Fabrication is weld-heavy, and the media are mildly corrosive rather than chloride-bearing.
Juice transfer lines, syrup and molasses piping, and evaporator and clarifier service in sugar plants use 304L. Weld-heavy fabrication and repeated caustic cleaning make the low-carbon grade the working choice.
Purified water loops, process transfer lines and utility piping in pharmaceutical plants specify 304L, where welded joints must hold their corrosion resistance through repeated sanitisation cycles.
