MLTI Private Limited (Moonlight Tube Industries) manufactures stainless steel 904L pipe at our facility based in Gujarat, India, and has been producing stainless steel pipe since 2008 with a plant capacity of approximately 8,000 MT per year. We produce 904L stainless steel pipe to ASTM A312 / ASME SA-312 in UNS N08904, also designated as AISI 904L and Type 904L. This superaustenitic stainless steel contains 23.0 to 28.0% nickel, 19.0 to 23.0% chromium, 4.0 to 5.0% molybdenum and 1.00 to 2.00% copper, with carbon limited to 0.020% maximum. The high nickel, molybdenum and copper content provides enhanced resistance to reducing acids and aggressive chloride-containing environments, making high-performance 904L stainless steel pipe suitable for selected demanding chemical and process applications. ASTM A312 specifies a minimum tensile strength of 490 MPa, a yield strength of 215 MPa, and an elongation of 35% after solution annealing.
Our SS 904L pipe range covers 1/8" NB to 10" NB in SCH 5S, SCH 10S, SCH 20S, SCH 40S and SCH 80S. Schedules 5S, 10S, 40S and 80S follow ASME B36.19M dimensions; SCH 20S is supplied to MLTI standard wall thicknesses, as ASME B36.19M does not define Schedule 20S. We supply 904L seamless pipe configurations designed without seams for critical high-pressure environments. As experienced 904L stainless steel pipe suppliers and exporters, MLTI supports project requirements with controlled manufacturing, inspection, and certification. For alternative project requirements, our 904L welded pipe versions are formed from steel strips and longitudinally welded via ERW. These serve chemical processing, acid production, seawater cooling, pulp and paper, and flue gas desulphurisation systems. Each applicable pipe undergoes hydrostatic or specified non-destructive testing before dispatch. We provide in-house PMI, tensile, hardness and dimensional inspection, together with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certification. MLTI holds ISO 14001 and 45001 certifications with BIS, EIL, IBR, and PED 2014/68/EU approvals.

Alloy 904L pipe is available in different manufacturing routes and section profiles. The manufacturing method affects production characteristics and pressure-service suitability, while the section profile determines the dimensional configuration.
904L seamless pipe is manufactured from a solid billet that is pierced and subsequently reduced to the required dimensions without a longitudinal welded seam. This form is used where seamless construction is specified for pressure piping and chemical processing applications.
Stainless Steel 904L welded pipes (ERW) are manufactured by precision-shaping stainless steel strips into cylinders. Edges are fused securely using high-frequency electrical resistance heating and intense mechanical pressure, creating a strong longitudinal seam without the addition of any filler metal.
Round pipe is the principal configuration covered by ASTM A312 and ASME B36.19M. Our round 904L pipe range extends from 1/8" NB to 10" NB across the schedules listed below.
Square
904L square pipe is manufactured to specified outside dimensions and wall thickness rather than ASME B36.19M pipe schedules, as B36.19M does not define square pipe dimensions. It is used for fabricated structures and equipment supports in corrosive environments.
Rectangular
904L rectangular pipe is manufactured according to specified width, height and wall thickness. The rectangular profile is suitable for fabricated frames, supports and equipment structures where the section geometry is specified by the application.

Five industries account for a significant share of 904L stainless steel pipe applications because of the grade's resistance to aggressive chemical environments.
Sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid and acetic acid processing systems use 904L pipe where resistance to reducing acid environments is required. Fertiliser processing and acid transfer systems also specify the grade for selected services.
Refinery condensate systems, process lines and selected amine circuits use 904L where higher corrosion resistance than conventional austenitic grades is required. Its high nickel and molybdenum content contributes to resistance against chloride stress corrosion cracking.
Seawater cooling circuits, ballast piping and desalination plant take 904L pipe in selected duties. Molybdenum at 4 to 5% with a copper addition lifts pitting and crevice resistance above 316L, but warm chlorinated seawater usually needs a 6% molybdenum grade. Chloride level decides selection.
Bleach plant piping and selected acidic process lines use 904L pipe where resistance to aggressive process liquors is required. The alloy is suitable for applications involving acidic and chloride-containing process conditions within its service limits.
Flue gas desulphurisation absorbers, scrubber recirculation lines, quench systems and related piping can use 904L where acidic condensate and chloride exposure require enhanced corrosion resistance.
SA-312 requires solution annealing of 904L pipe at a minimum temperature of 1100°C, followed by water quenching or equally rapid cooling. The low carbon limit of 0.020% reduces the risk of chromium carbide precipitation during welding and helps maintain resistance to intergranular corrosion.
Material selection between 904L stainless steel pipe and duplex 2205 depends primarily on the service environment. Duplex 2205 provides high strength and strong resistance to chloride-containing environments, while 904L offers advantages in selected reducing acid services because of its copper, nickel and molybdenum content. The appropriate grade should therefore be selected according to the actual chemical composition, temperature, chloride concentration and corrosion conditions.

Yes. Stainless Steel 904L Pipe can be welded using conventional arc welding processes such as TIG, MIG and SMAW. Matching 904L Filler metals such as AWS ER385 are commonly used. Preheating and post-weld heat treatment are generally not required for standard fabrication, subject to the applicable welding procedure.
When welding 904L Pipe to 316L Pipe, filler metal selection should account for the corrosion resistance required from the completed joint. Higher-alloyed fillers such as 904L / ER385 or suitable nickel-based alloys may be specified depending on the service environment and approved welding procedure.
904L provides good corrosion resistance but is not normally selected for continuous high-temperature service. For service above approximately 400°C, the complete temperature, stress and corrosion requirements should be evaluated before selecting 904L.

Heavy cold working can alter its magnetic response, so the statement that it remains completely non-magnetic under all conditions should not be applied to heavily cold-worked material.
